Neville 'numb' after Man Utd's chaotic 4-4 draw with Bournemouth

Manchester United's chaotic 4-4 draw with Bournemouth left Gary Neville feeling a "numbness" at Old Trafford.

United thrice threw away a lead in a match that will go down as a Premier League classic.

Having led 1-0 and 2-1 only to go behind 3-2, United rallied via quickfire goals from Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha, but Junior Kroupi snatched a deserved draw for the visitors in the 84th minute.

United failed to win a Premier League game in which they scored at least four goals for only the third time, previously doing so against Everton in April 2012 (4-4) and West Brom in May 2013 (5-5).  

"It was absolute madness," said Neville, who was commentating on Monday's clash for Sky Sports.

"It was a game that went punch for punch and was end-to-end.

"It was a game you could not call. I'm not sure who is going to be happiest at the end.

"I said in the game that I could live with the way Manchester United played, but what you can't get away from is it is seven points dropped in their last three games at home.

"For Bournemouth, who have had a tough run, they will be delighted as they travel down south. They were beaten well in the first half in performance terms, but they fought back.

"There's a bit of a numbness about what everyone has watched at Old Trafford."

United have failed to win each of their last three home Premier League games (D2 L1), having won five of their previous six on home soil (L1).

Bournemouth, though, are the first side in top-flight history to score three or more goals in three successive away games at United.

David Brooks could well have won it for the Cherries late on, though Bournemouth ultimately settled for a point.

And while Andoni Iraola was delighted with his side's attacking quality, he felt the defending from both teams left a lot to be desired.

Iraola told BBC Sport: "It's very difficult to explain because so much happened.

"I suppose it was entertaining for everyone. Two teams that attacked much better than they defended. We played quite open, both teams.

"Everything happened, even in stoppage time. A lot of positives.

"The last two were massive chances, great saves from [Senne] Lammens. We take a point. We can use a lot of good things from today but things to correct."

Iraola was not happy, however, with the decision to award the free-kick that led to Fernandes making it 3-3, with Adam Smith adjudged to have handled, even though replays suggested the ball struck closer to the defender's shoulder.

"I think it's a clear mistake. Above the armband. It's not a foul," said Iraola.
