52 goals in Haaland's 1st season at City, Carragher: He could do more this year

Jamie Carragher thinks Erling Haaland could better his 52-goal first season at Manchester City this term having improved his heading ability and all-round play.

The striker scored his 22nd and 23rd goals of the campaign in City's 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, producing a towering header for the opener before adding a late penalty.

"We remember his first season in England but I think he might eclipse it," Carragher said on Super Sunday: Extra Time.

"Maybe not in terms of what City win, but in terms of him.

"He looks a more all-round player, especially his heading.

"His first goal was something Duncan Ferguson would be proud of. It felt like you were looking at Alan Shearer or Les Ferdinand.

"This is something he has massively improved on."

He added: "Goalscoring-wise, I don't think we've seen anyone better.

"People who know the centre-forward position better than me have commented on his all-round play and getting involved more this season as well. 

"It does feel like we're seeing an improved Haaland.

"The one criticism we've had - if it is a criticism - is that he's just a goalscorer. This season we're seeing more than someone who is just interested in goals."
