Emile Heskey: Returning to Dortmund is Sancho's last chance

Jadon Sancho is at a crossroads. The former Borussia Dortmund star is one of English football's biggest problem children. After his disastrous loan move from Manchester United to Chelsea, his next chapter at Aston Villa was also disappointing: not a single start.

Most recently, the England international suffered the ultimate humiliation: in the match against Manchester City, Sancho was substituted on before halftime – and then immediately substituted off again after the break. A public humiliation for the 23-year-old.
Yet, at the beginning of 2024, he had been shining at Borussia Dortmund. Back on loan at BVB, Sancho played brilliantly and led the team all the way to the Champions League final.
Former England player Emile Heskey sees Borussia Dortmund as Jadon's last hope. The former England and Liverpool striker said: "Jadon has a great relationship with Dortmund in the Bundesliga, so that's a direction he could take. When he went back on loan, he was in the Champions League final. So it's possible – and you'd think he could always return there, especially on a free transfer."
Sancho's contract with Manchester United expires in June. He could then leave on a free transfer – so the path would be clear.
Sancho has also been linked with Italian clubs. But Heskey warns: "I think Italy could work for him. But the crucial thing is that his attitude has to be right and he has to be willing to work hard. It's no walk in the park there. It could be a rude awakening for him. But maybe that's exactly what he needs to pull himself together and rediscover his old form."
