Coach of the Danish women's national team, Andrée Jeglertz admits that it was very poor timing, when he announced that he would be stepping down shortly before the Nations League group match against Sweden in the beginning of June which Denmark lost 6-1.
It was shortly before the Nations League match against Sweden that Director of the Danish FA, Peter Moller, announced that Jeglertz had chosen to step down after the European Championships which will start in the beginning of June.
Moller chose to do so after several media sources reported that HamKam coach Jakob Michelsen had been selected to take over the Danish women's national team after the EURO making it obvious that Jeglertz would leave the team. It was not the way the Danish FA or Jeglertz wanted to make the announcement.
"It wasn't good. It was really, really bad timing. It was not something neither the players nor I had hoped for. But that's how it turned out. Therefore, you have to live with it. But it is very regrettable that it happened that way", says the Danish national coach to dr.dk.
Jeglertz emphasizes again that its not related to the team or the FA that he has refused to put his signature on a new contract. It is mostly about the fact that he misses being a club coach.
"I miss the daily contact with players and managers and the direct impact on the players. Being a national coach is a very special job. I enjoy it, but I have to admit that there is something I miss."
"I have so much energy and energy to be more on the training pitch than you are as a national coach. That is the reason for it", says Jeglertz.
