Three players who were part of the senior squad for the June international window this week are among the nine Swedish players who will travel with their clubs to the newly-expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which begins on Saturday.

The other six include two other players capped at senior level, two who play for the Blagult at youth level and two who have never worn the Sweden shirt.

The nine are spread across eight different clubs from seven countries and three confederations!

Here is the rundown of all the Swedish players hoping to make an impact at the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

Daniel Svensson - Borussia Dortmund

Daniel Svensson's stock has been rising this season; after impressing for Nordsjaelland in Denmark and making his senior Sweden debut in October, he attracted plenty of attention from top European sides, leading to Borussia Dortmund taking him on loan with an option to buy in February.

He made 16 appearances as the German side finished fourth in the Bundesliga and reached the UEFA Champions League, scoring once and providing three assists.

The 23-year-old is now aiming to take his breakout campaign to another level in the USA, where Dortmund will play in Group F alongside Fluminense, Ulsan Hyundai and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Samuel Dahl - Benfica

The career of Samuel Dahl is very similar to that of Svensson - a young left-back who not only made his senior Sweden debut in 2024, but spent time on loan this season at a European giant, Benfica.

Dahl struggled for opportunities at Roma having joined from Djurgarden a year ago, but reignited his career in Portugal with 18 appearances and six assists since early February. That earned him a recall to the Sweden squad, earning his second cap against Luxembourg in March.

Benfica have now made the move permanent, and the 22-year-old will be looking to repay the Lisbon side in Group B, where Benfica will meet Bayern Munich, Boca Juniors and Auckland City.

John Mellberg - Red Bull Salzburg

Joining Svensson and Dahl in the Sweden squad last week was John Mellberg, who was called up to the senior side for the first time and was an unused substitute against both Hungary and Algeria.

A centre-back like his father - former Aston Villa man Olaf - and born in Birmingham, 18-year-old John is a former Brommapojkarna academy product who moved to Austria in 2023, spending time on loan at Liefering before making his first six appearances for Salzburg this season.

He will aim to get a few more games under his belt in Group H, where Red Bull Salzburg will play Real Madrid, Pachuca and Al-Hilal.

Samuel Gustafson - Urawa Reds

The player heading to the Club World Cup with the most caps for the Blagult is Samuel Gustafson. The 30-year-old has played 13 times for Sweden, even wearing the captain's armband in a friendly against Finland in 2023, however, he was last called up by Jon Dahl Tomasson a year ago.

The former Hacken, Hellas Verona and Cremonese man has spent the last 18 months with Japanese side Urawa Reds, for whom he has made 15 appearances in the J-League so far this season, scoring twice in their most recent fixture against Yokohama FC.

He will be hoping to be on something of a purple patch in front of goal, as Urawa Reds face Inter, Monterrey and River Plate in Group E.

Darijan Bojanic - Ulsan HD

Staying in Asia, we find the final full Sweden international gearing up for the Club World Cup, Darijan Bojanic, who has played for Korean side Ulsan Hyundai since 2022, having previously featured for six Swedish clubs including Goteborg, Hammarby and Helsingborg.

The 30-year-old midfielder played twice for the Blagult in January 2020 friendlies against Moldova and Kosovo, and though he considered switching allegiance to Bosnia & Herzegovina, remains a Swedish player.

Bojanic has five goal involvements in 14 games across all competitions for Ulsan so far this season.

Gustav Ludwigson - Ulsan HD

Perhaps surprisingly, Ulsan Hyundai are the only side at the tournament with multiple Swedish representatives. Like Bojanic, Gustav Ludwigson played his entire career in Sweden before heading to the Korean club before making the move ahead of the 2023 season.

The 31-year-old spent much of his early career in the lower leagues before a prolific two-year spell with Hammarby from 2020 to 2022. As something of a late bloomer, the forward has never played for Sweden at any level.

When Ludwigson and Bojanic face compatriot Svensson in the Ulsan vs Dortmund fixture, perhaps they could catch the eye of Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson?

Jonah Kuse-Asare - Bayern Munich

Looking to make a name for himself in the US is 17-year-old Jonah Kuse-Asare, who has been included in the Bayern squad by manager Vincent Kompany.

The striker has already been capped by Sweden at under-21 level, and two goals in the UEFA Youth League helped earn him the chance to make his first-team debut in April, coming on in the final minutes against Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga.

He will be down the pecking order, but the striker could be given an opportunity in Group B.

Jonas Rouhi - Juventus

Sticking with the Sweden U21 side, Juventus will be taking defender Jonas Rouhi, another left-back and another player who was part of the Brommapojkarna youth setup.

At the Turin side since 2020, the 22-year-old made his first six appearances for The Old Lady first team this season, coming off the bench for his debut against Hellas Verona in August.

Rouhi's side will play in Group G, against Al Ain, Manchester City and Wydad.

Elyas Bouzaiene - Esperance Tunis

Last but not least, we head to North Africa, where Elyas Bouzaiene features 2024-25 Tunisian champions Esperance Tunis, making 13 appearances last season having moved from Vasteras in January.

Born in Sweden to Tunisian and Finnish parents, former Degerfors defender Bouzaiene has never featured for Sweden at any age and could yet switch allegiance to Tunisia.

Esperance have been drawn in Group D and will take on Chelsea, Flamengo and LAFC.
