The new CONCACAF champions, Cruz Azul, are expected to announce their new head coach very soon.

Necaxa coach set to take over from Sánchez

Following Vicente Sánchez’s departure in the wake of Cruz Azul’s Champions Cup final win, Necaxa boss Nicolás Larcamón is in line to take charge of Los Celestes.

It appears that only a few formalities and financial issues are delaying Larcamón’s move to Cruz Azul.

This situation is expected to be resolved in the very near future, at which point the club will officially unveil the Argentine.

Larcamón did not oversee Necaxa’s most recent training session, in a move that strongly pointed to his imminent departure from the club. Reports suggest he will not arrive alone; he is expected to bring the player José Paradela with him.

During his tenure with Necaxa, Larcamón managed 19 matches, registering 10 wins, three draws and six losses. He has also coached Puebla and León in the Liga MX.

Ahead of the Apertura 2025, Cruz Azul’s preseason will include a four-team tournament in Morelos from June 20 to 22, featuring León, Chivas Guadalajara and Atlante.

From June 27 to 29, the nine-time Mexican champions are due to compete in the Copa Bienestar in Zacatecas, against Mineros, Chivas and Santos Laguna.

The team will then travel to Veracruz, where another four-team tournament will be held from July 1 to 6. Newell’s Old Boys from Argentina, Once Caldas from Colombia, and fellow Mexicans Mazatlán are to join Cruz Azul at the event.
