The former Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham defender admits winning trophies at Stamford Bridge made him feel like "the king of the world"

William Gallas has revealed that the time he spent at Chelsea was his favourite spell as a Premier League player.

The former France international had plenty of options to choose from, having also taken in stints at Arsenal and Tottenham.

He spent four years with the Gunners between 2006 and 2010, before crossing the north London divide to see out three seasons at Spurs.

It was at Stamford Bridge, however, that he enjoyed the longest and most productive time.

Snapped up by the Blues in 2001, he was already an established member of the squad by the time Jose Mourinho arrived three years later and went on to lift two Premier League titles, the League Cup and Community Shield under the Portuguese coach.

Pressed on Sky Sports’ Fantasy Football Club to choose his most memorable spell, Gallas said: "If I have to pick one, I would say Chelsea as we won a trophy.

“Jose Mourinho gave me that feeling and it's unbelievable. You are the king of the world when you lift a trophy.

"At Arsenal I wanted to lift a trophy again, but it didn't happen. Or at Tottenham."

Ex-Arsenal forward Paul Merson could not resist chipping in at that point with a sly dig at the arch-rivals of his former employers.

"It wouldn't have happened at Tottenham!” he said.

Gallas made 436 competitive appearances in English football, netting 31 goals.

Upon leaving Tottenham in 2013, he headed to Australia to join Perth Glory before hanging up his boots 12 months later.
