REVEALED - Europe's top sides by points in 2023: Man City are No 1

Manchester City earned the most points of any team in Europe's top five leagues in 2023, to nobody's surprise.

Pep Guardiola's men earned 93 points from 39 games in the last calendar year as they claimed a third consecutive Premier League title.

His alma mater, Barcelona, were joint-second alongside Atletico Madrid on 88 points earned.

Xavi's side stormed to a first LaLiga title after four years of frustration while Simeone's finished in a commendable third, where they rank so far this campaign as well.

The stats for 2023 were compiled by Squawka, and some of the teams that follow are surprising.

Inter Milan were next on 87 points, and at first glance you wouldn't think they had picked up so many.

While they top the Serie A standings at the moment, it wasn't plain sailing last season as they stuttered to third.

Allegri, who led the Turin-based behemoths to five consecutive titles in his first spell at the club, has rejuvenated them with fresh inspiration this season.

It looked as if he could lose his job last term as they shambled to seventh place in Serie A, their lowest finish since 2011.

However, he has them firing on all cylinders this season and they are embroiled in their first title scrap since 2020, just two points behind leaders Inter.

Spare a thought for Wrexham, whose lower-league status means they miss out on this list despite blowing away their opposition with a staggering 104 points.

Fuelled by Hollywood pizzazz and the wisened head of Phil Parkinson, Wrexham blitzed to the National League title with a record 11 points and are third in League Two.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane's Bayern Munich could have been up there but only managed 75 points by virtue of the Bundesliga having four fewer games per season.
