Liverpool and Fulham interested in Rennes’ Arthur Theate

L’Équipe are reporting that Liverpool and Fulham are interested in Stade Rennais centre-back Arthur Theate (23).

The Belgian centre-back only joined Rennes last year from Bologna in a €19m deal. Despite the Ligue 1 side’s defensive difficulties at moments last season, Theate was displaceable in Rennes’ back-line. During his first season with Bruno Genesio’s side, he made 42 appearances, scoring an impressive five goals and registering one assist.

Theate, who has eight caps for the Belgian national side, is set to compete in European competition with Rennes this season, and further cement his place in the side. However, according to L’Équipe, he is attracting interest. Both Liverpool and Fulham are interested in recruiting a left-footed centre-back this summer, and he fits the mould. The centre-back, whose contract runs until the summer of 2026, features on the shortlists of both clubs. His teammate at club and international level Jérémy Doku (21) could also be set for a departure this summer with multiple clubs interested in a deal.
