Wrexham slumped to a 3-5 home defeat against MK Dons on the opening day of the League Two season in what was an entertaining clash full of attacking quality and plenty of goals.
Back from their pre-season tour of America and back in the big time as Wrexham welcomed MK Dons for their League Two opener.
Two goals in the first 10 minutes for the visitors sought to spoil the fairytale return to the EFL as Eoghan O'Connell turned the ball into his own net before Mohamed Eisa doubled the deficit.
The hosts responded just before half-time as Jacob Mendy pulled a goal back before the Dons went on a second-half rampage.
Jonathan Leko struck twice in quick succession to thwart any hopes of a famous comeback in Wales as Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson struggled to fill the striker-shaped hole in their team left by the injured Paul Mullin.
Jordan Davies came off the bench to score late on for Wrexham, before Daniel Harvie added a fifth goal for the visitors and Anthony Forde bagged a third for the fresh faces of League Two, but it wasn't enough to help them avoid defeat.
Stockport v Gillingham (0-1)
A rain-soaked Stockport saw Gillingham travel to Edgeley Park as the new League Two campaign got underway but a lacklustre first-half failed to provide an edge.
Robbie McKenzie changed that feeling with a late goal in the 86th minute that handed Gillingham a valuable three points on the opening day of the season.
Grimsby v Wimbledon (0-0)
Goalless and lacking quality, neither side were able to inspire a victory that would have been clinched by a single goal.
The only goalless game in League Two on the opening day.
Crewe v Mansfield (2-2)
Three goals in the space of 10 minutes ignited this clash between League Two promotion hopefuls with Mansfield fighting back to rescue a draw.
Visitors striker KD Davis bagged an opening day brace after quick-fire strikes in the 22nd and 26th minute put Mansfield in the driving seat.
Crewe centre-back Mickey Demetriou responded with a goal not long after that threatened to pull the hosts back into contention.
Callum McDonald's sending off in the 58th minute lead to the hosts equalising through Rio Adebisi not long after as spoils were shared in an entertaining encounter.
Accrington v Newport (3-0)
Jack Nolan's 24th minute goal put Accrington ahead in their first match of the new season as Newport sought to steal three points on the road.
They would go on to build on their lead Shaun Whalley and Korede Adedoyin coming off the bench to add a third late on.
Doncaster v Harrogate (0-1)
A low-key affair to kickstart Doncaster's curtain-raising largely left supporters with an absence of action to enjoy during a barren first-half.
Jack Muldoon put Harrogate in control after scoring from the penalty spot in the 66th minute and leaving the visitors with a lead to hold onto in the dying stages of the clash.
Forest Green v Salford (0-2)
Salford sealed victory on their trip to the south-west as Forest Green struggled to get going in front of their home supporters.
Conor McAleny opened the second-half scoring as Salford sealed a hard-fought 0-1 victory on the opening day of the season.
Crawley v Bradford (1-0)
10-men Bradford managed couldn't muster the required skill to hamper Crawley on their way to an opening day win.
Will Wright put the hosts in-front during the early exchanges of the first-half before Bradford had Daniel Oyegoke sent off just before half-time.
Sutton v Notts County (5-1)
The hosts laid down a marker of their promotion intent as Notts County were tucked away at ease by a dominant Sutton side.
Joseph Mohamed Kizzi got the scoring procession underway, with the visitors further punished in the 15th minute as Aidan Stone was given his marching orders.
Follow-up strikes from Omari Patrick (two), Harry Beautyman and Harry Smith settled the tie. David McGoldrick added a late consolation.
Tranmere v Barrow (1-2)
Barrow were made to work for their victory after initially taking the lead in the 19th minute before being penned back late on by Joshua Hawkes' penalty.
Kian Spence forced a winning goal in the 70th minute that the hosts couldn't fight back against.
Morecambe v Walsall (2-1)
Adam Mayor opened the floodgates with a 25th minute goal before Danny Johnson soon shut them with an equaliser just over 10 minutes later.
The tie looks set to be a draw before Farrend Rawson's 90+2 minute winner sealed victory for the hosts.
