Griezmann gets custom boots for Madrid derby

The Atletico forward will be hoping his red and white footwear does some damage for the Rojiblancos when they face Real at Vicente Calderon on Saturday

The Madrid derby will take centre stage in La Liga on Saturday evening, with Atletico and Real rekindling old rivalries at Vicente Calderon.

Among the galaxy of stars on show could be France international forward Antoine Griezmann.

The 25-year-old picked up a knock to his foot while on World Cup qualifying duty with his country last week, but medical exams have discovered no broken bones.

Atletico offered a further fitness update on Monday, suggesting that Griezmann has suffered no lasting damage.

They said in a statement: “After undergoing tests, the medical report confirms 'a good evolution of his traumatic injury'. The Frenchman will do rehabilitation work and physical therapy in the coming days to progressively allow him to rejoin training."

If given the all clear, then the lively frontman will be looking to play a leading role against Real.

He will certainly stand out from the crowd if he is able to take a place in Diego Simeone’s starting XI, with Puma having presented him some custom footwear.

The red and white evoSPEED Derby Fever boots are ideal for someone representing the Rojiblancos, while the ‘Madrid Derby’ stitching below the laces is a nice touch.

Griezmann will hope that the special offerings get him back in the scoring groove, with four domestic outings having passed since he last netted in the Spanish top-flight.

Saturday would be the ideal time to snap out of that run, with Atletico looking to chip away at the seven-point gap which currently separates them from table-topping Real.
