Having been linked with an exit this spring, highly-rated young goalkeeper Lisandru Olmeta is now set to leave Monaco to sign with Lille, having rejected a professional contract with the Principality club according to L’Équipe this afternoon.
The 17-year-old, who is the son of former Marseille and Lyon shotstopper Pascal Olmeta, was reaching the end of his youth contract with Monaco. The Corsican will now sign what is expected to be a long-term contract with Les Dogues, who have promised him a place in the first-team squad. Chelsea and Manchester United were among the high-profile outfits keeping an eye on him.
Olmeta was notably part of the France team that won the U17 Euros last year, playing alongside the likes of Paris Saint-Germain’s Warren Zaïre-Emery, Lyon full-back Saël Kumbedi, as well as Mathys Tel, now of Bayern Munich. This season, he has featured for Monaco in their successful Gambardella (French Youth Cup) campaign, although the goalkeeper was not involved in the final at the Stade de France on Sunday.
