England will head to Australia and New Zealand this summer for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, armed with their new-look 2023 home and away kits.
The Lionesses will also showcase the new design during April's games with Brazil at Wembley in the inaugural UEFA Finalissima and then against Australia at Brentford FC.
And fans will be able to purchase the full kits in time for the World Cup from the week beginning Monday 5 June, via our online England store, Nike.com, the Nike app. From Thursday 8 June, the kits will be available through additional marketplace partners with the pricing to be confirmed then.
Our kit partners at Nike and their design teams got to work on the new England kit by drawing inspiration from the legendary Wembley Stadium.
Alongside celebrating the 100th anniversary this year, the iconic stadium currently holds the two highest attendance records for women’s football matches set by recent England women’s team matches.
And at the time of Wembley’s construction in the 1920s, England, like other parts of the world, was amid the Art Deco movement. The original Wembley even nods to this, with its art deco façade. It is this art movement, its colour, patterns and gradients, that inspired England’s new kits.
The typography on the kits was produced by Neville Brody, a fixture in the England graphic design community.
Adapting the well-received fonts used for the England men’s squad in 2014, he and his team created a lighter font with adjusted angles to work with the women’s uniform size and scale.
The new kits also feature an England crest and Nike Swoosh made of 100 per cent Nike Grind, a collection of recycled materials composed of pre-consumer manufacturing scraps, recycled post-consumer shoes from the Reuse-A-Shoe programme, and unsellable footwear.
The Home Kit
England’s new home kit honours and remembers the past through colour. First, taking inspiration from the original Wembley’s white, chalky brick exterior of 1923 — the jersey is a chalky off-white colour. This is also in keeping with tradition, where a white jersey is synonymous with England.
The colours in the home kit also pay homage to the 1984 England women’s team, the country’s first women’s team assembled for a major tournament. The new home kit follows the same colours as the 1984 edition, with a white top with blue details and a blue short.
Nodding to the Art Deco movement that inspired the overall collection, abstract shapes on the socks create a new logo that spells out “ENG” in the negative space.
Kit Colours:
· Top: Summit White with Gym Blue trim
· Shorts: Gym Blue
· Sock: Summit White
The Away Kit
England’s new away kit moves away from their classic white and red kits, bringing in the first expression of blue for the team.
The pattern of the top is a geometric form, speaking specifically to the Art Deco movement. The slight gradient of colour is a nod to the chalky façade of the original Wembley and the screever chalk drawings that were popular at the time of the origin of Wembley.
Kit Colours:
· Top: Coast Blue with Gym Blue trim
· Shorts: Coast Blue with Gym Blue trim
· Sock: Gym Blue
The new England kits will go on sale from Monday 5 June, ahead of the Women's World Cup in July and August. More details on shirt options will be available in due course.
