Brentford's Sergi Canos has demonstrated his gratitude to his team-mates for their celebration honouring the player's late mother who passed away earlier in the week in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

Canos was shipped out on loan to Greek side Olympiacos in the January transfer window but clearly maintains a close relationship with his colleagues in London.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney dedicated his celebration to Canos' mother after equalising against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday, as the Premier League leaders suffered another slip in their race for the title.

Toney ran towards their bench and was surrounded by his team-mate's as he held up a blue Brentford shirt donned with the words 'we are all with you Sergi', as well as a love heart.

Canos responded by tweeting 'You are THANK YOU' with a broken heart and a sad face emoji as he recognised the efforts of his Brentford friends who had decided to send a message to him as he deals with tough personal circumstances.

The Bees have built success on developing close-knit relationships within their squad and have pulled of a series of stunning results since their promotion to the top-flight in 2021.

Thomas Franck has put together a Brentford team capable of pulling off shock results against seemingly superior opposition, with their recent draw against Arsenal another example of how far they have come stepping foot in the Premier League.

Brentford were on top for much of the game against Arsenal and missed two key chances to take the lead in the first-half.

Mikel Arteta's side were much improved following the break and opened the scoring with Leandro Trossard turning in a Bukayo Saka cross.

Toney then stooped to head home an equaliser into a vacant net to earn Brentford a point away from home, but has since been shown to get off the hook after it was revealed the goal should have been ruled out for offside.

Sportsmail revealed that VAR Referee Lee Mason forgot to draw offside lines in his review of the goal that has blown the Premier League title race wide open.
