Wales fan tragically dies while following his country at Qatar World Cup

A Wales fan sadly passed away while following his country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Further details are yet to emerge but it's believed that Kevin Davies, a 62-year-old man from Pembrokeshire, died while in the Middle East, while all out there with his son and some friends.

According to BBC Wales, the death of the fan happened on Friday due to natural causes. It is thought that he was likely planning to attend Wales' Group B fixture against Iran at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium - though he did not make the 2-0 defeat.

Davies' family have been offered UK consular assistance following his death. The Football Supporters' Association Cymru has been providing support as they have been doing with all travelling fans.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said that it was 'supporting the family of a British man who has died in Qatar'.

While on Saturday, the Fan Embassy Wales tweeted: "Unfortunately, we have lost one of the Red Wall yesterday in Qatar. Our sincere condolences go out to his son here in Doha and his family back in Wales.. May he rest in peace."

The Wales FA wrote online in tribute: "Mae CBDC yn cydymdeimlo efo teulu a ffrindiau Kevin Davies. Our deepest condolences from everyone at the Football Association of Wales. Our thoughts are with Kevin's family and friends at this sad time. The FAW is in contact with Kevin's family to help in whatever way we can."

Football Supporters Association Cymru's Paul Corkrey told the PA news agency: "He was part of the Red Wall and we're all devastated for him and his family. We're all like one big family and we lost one of our family members today."

Everyone has been very helpful, and everyone who has been asked for help has come through," Mr Corkrey added.

One wrote online: "Thoughts are with Kevin Davies' family today, a member of our great Red Wall out in Qatar, who has sadly lost his life."

Officials believe more than 2,500 Wales fans have made the trip to Qatar for the tournament.

Wales drew their opening game with the USA 1-1 in Group B, before losing to Iran 2-0. They face England as their final group-stage game in the tournament.
