The Manchester City manager appears in a new video promoting the charitable work of Proactiva Open Arms, which attempts to rescue migrants off the European coast

Pep Guardiola has lent his support to a little-known team of lifeguards who bid to rescue migrants off the European coast.

Proactiva Open Arms, a non-governmental organisation, launched a series of videos featuring the Manchester City boss on Twitter on Monday.

The Barcelona based group welcomed Guardiola to "the bravest team" in four short clips: one each in English, Spanish, Catalan and Italian.

According to its website, Proactiva Open Arms' mission "is to rescue refugees from the sea that arrive in Europe fleeing wars, persecution or poverty".

Its work is focused on areas off the Greek and central Mediterranean coasts, where people attempt to cross into Europe from Africa.

Thousands of people have died making the journey in recent years.

The organisation was first set up as a lifeguard service on the Spanish coast but took its work to the Aegean and Centeal Mediterranean seas in recent years amid the ongoing migrant crisis.

Guardiola appears on a rescue boat in the group's video and stresses the importance of the group's work.
