Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has lashed out at Antony for his conduct amid interest from Manchester United.

The Red Devils are on the brink of completing a £84million deal for the Brazilian forward, who arrived at their Carrington training ground on Monday ahead of his medical.

Confirmation of the move will bring to a close one of the summer's longest-running transfer sagas.

Antony has been a leading target for United throughout the transfer window and made clear his desire to move to Old Trafford.

Ajax stood firm as United's interest intensified, but the 22-year-old then refused to train as he attempted to force through a switch.

He has been left out of the Dutch side's last two league fixtures after declaring that he no intention of playing for the club again.

Appearing on Ziggo Sports programme Rondo, Ajax boss Schreuder said it was 'weird' that Antony went on strike and revealed the forward was 'eventually spoken to about it'.

Asked if Antony could be fined, Schreuder added: 'Absolutely. I don't think it's good that it's possible within our club.

'If you're Ajax, it's just bad that this happens. I've talked about it with him. If you're disappointed for a day or two, I understand, but at some point you're a professional.

'Then I said: "I will continue with the guys who are there". At a certain point you get angry about it, like… what are we doing? Looking at the total picture, that frustrates you as a trainer, but also how you stand in the world.

'Then I think, "you're just a player, you just have to do your thing". But my personal feeling is that it's just bad.'

Antony will become the third player who Erik ten Hag has signed from the Eredivisie this summer after Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez.

The £84million deal will take United's total spending during the window to over £200million.
