Man Utd are prepared to 'suffer' in order to grant Cristiano Ronaldo his exit from the Premier League club this summer, according to reports.

The Portugal international outlined his intentions to leave the club earlier this summer with the player asking the Man Utd hierarchy to entertain any acceptable offers for him.

Initially Man Utd took a hardline stance over his future with the club keen to keep him because of their lack of striking options and his great record in front of goal.

However, they have a significant U-turn on that stance with Erik ten Hag and the club's board now happy to facilitate Ronaldo's departure.

Despite that, Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes is having a hard time finding a club who is prepared to fork out his wages and potential transfer fee to Man Utd this summer.

That is still the case but The Times now claim that 'the Glazer family are prepared to both suffer the commercial consequences of granting Ronaldo his transfer and spend heavily on replacements'.

They add that 'the Old Trafford exit door is now wider open than its ever been, the problem is where it leads to' for Ronaldo and 'he is girding himself for one more year at United, and to make the best he can of it'.

Ten Hag made his players run 13.8km on their day off following an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Brentford in their second Premier League match of the campaign.

13.8km was the exact amount Brentford ran collectively more than Man Utd during that match and The Times claims Ronaldo was 'unimpressed with Ten Hag's attempt to shift responsibility to the players and their physical output in London'.

The Times continues: 'Ronaldo ruefully contrasted the club captains he'd inherited across his storied career: Roy Keane on first arriving in England, Sergio Ramos at Real Madrid, Giorgio Chiellini of Juventus. Then Harry Maguire — four relegations and not even a Carabao Cup to his name.'

Rio Ferdinand thinks former team-mate Ronaldo will be "fuming" to have been left out of the starting XI for their 1-0 win over Southampton on Saturday.

Ferdinand said on BT Sport: "He'll be fuming, 100 per cent, we all worked with superstars. We've seen players being dropped before and they don't understand it because they have total belief in who they are, what they are and what they bring to the table.

"He won't be looking at the negatives that people are bringing out, he'll be looking 'I bring goals to the table, I bring winning mentality, why aren't I playing?' and some people will say you're only thinking about yourself and that's selfish but that's what gets these players to the top."

When asked whether Ronaldo will still be a Man Utd player at the end of the window, Ferdinand added: "It depends on whether he's happy to be in this position and play second fiddle or does he see himself that comes in and takes that shirt again? Only he can answer that question, we have to play the waiting game now."
