Chelsea have been told to complete the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire, with Manchester United encouraged to cut their losses. The duo have both been linked with moves to Stamford Bridge this summer amid increasingly uncertain futures under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, the west Londoners made a shock enquiry about the England international last week amid growing doubt over his future. It's said that Chelsea asked of Maguire's availability to counter the Red Devils' interest in Christian Pulisic.

According to ESPN, in July, Ronaldo was open to a move to Stamford Bridge. But, despite Boehly having built the groundwork to complete a deal after meeting with super agent Jorge Mendes, Thomas Tuchel is believed not to be convinced.

Nonetheless, both Ronaldo and Maguire have edged closer to an exit after being dropped for the clash with Liverpool. They've been urged to have a fresh start amid interest from Chelsea but could cost the Blues as much as £54.8million, according to CIES Football Observatory.

Speaking on the talkSPORT Sports Bar show, Paul Parker said: "When I look at Ronaldo, I think that they need to cut their losses and let him go. He's unhappy, he wants to play every week, and I think they've got to let him go even if they have to pay him off or something - I don't think they'll get much money for him.

"But I look at Harry Maguire, and Ten Hag mentioned something that he was looking for in his back line, and he wants mobility and pace," Parker added. "Straight away, there are two words there that make it difficult for Harry Maguire to be playing regularly for Manchester United.

"To see the first goal that comes from Martinez, as soon as the ball comes to him, he passes it out wide to Elanga – he does not have two or three touches to make his mind up. United were a much better team going forward because they were getting the ball into midfield a lot quicker than the back four that they'd been playing with over the last few years."

Darren Bent agreed with Parker and said that Maguire could flourish under Tuchel at Chelsea - a side renowned for its defensive prowess since the German took over. The former Tottenham striker said: "It's mad that Maguire is being linked with Chelsea, but do you know what is really mad?

"Maguire's form has fallen off a cliff, but if he was put into Thomas Tuchel's system with Thomas Tuchel as a defensive-minded coach, I think he'd be better. I'm not saying he'd be a world beater, but he'd be better. It comes down to having a good coach at the end of the day."
