According to Le Parisien, former PSG director Leonardo wanted to appoint Thiago Motta to replace Mauricio Pochettino and sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United.
PSG sacked Leonardo at the end of 2021-22. PSG had won the French title but had another disappointing European campaign, so the former Brazil international was relieved of his duties at the end of the season.
The Ligue 1 giants hired Luis Campos as their new director and, according to Fabrizio Romano, have reached an agreement with Christophe Galtier, who will replace Mauricio Pochettino.
However, according to Le Parisien, Leonardo’s plan was very different. Pochettino would have been sacked anyway, but the leading candidate to replace him was Thiago Motta. The PSG legend was in charge of Spezia last season but has now been replaced by Luca Gotti.
The Aquile announced Gotti’s appointment only a few hours ago.
As per the French paper, Leonardo was also willing to bring Paul Pogba to Paris, but new director Campos wants to change the club’s approach to transfers by signing potential prospects who can develop at the club rather than world-class stars.
Pogba has now accepted an offer from Juventus and will join the Serie A giants as a free agent for the second time in his career.
