'Not Real Madrid' - Which clubs have won the most league titles in Europe?

Amongst the top 10, only Juventus and Real Madrid feature from the best five leagues in Europe

Irish side Linfield FC are the most successful club in Europe with 56 league titles to their name. They won the first championship back in 1890-91, which is before the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona were founded. They have also won the current league championship by defeating Cliftonville by a point.

In the second position comes Scottish side Rangers FC with 55 titles. They won their first league title in the same year as Linfield. They are the defending champions of the Scottish league but are currently placed second behind rivals Celtic in the table. However, The Celts are not far behind as they have 51 titles in their cabinet. They can further bridge the gap if they go on to win the current league championship.

In the fourth position are Greek side Olympiacos with 46 titles. They were founded in 1925 and took just six years to win their debut league title in 1930-31.

Portugal's Benfica are in the fifth position with 37 titles. Although they are the most successful team in their country, their form has dipped in the last couple of seasons. In 2018-19, The Eagles last won the league championship. It is unlikely that they would regain the title this season as they are already 15 points behind leaders Porto.

Amongst the top five leagues of Europe Juventus have the most number of league titles as they have won the Scudetto 36 times. However, in this season, they might have to remain content with a top-four finish.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid collected their 35th La Liga Championship on Sunday evening after hammering Espanyol 4-0. The Los Blancos have won nine more league titles than their rivals Barcelona who have got 26. Amongst the top 10, only Juventus and Real Madrid feature from the top five leagues in Europe.
