Benjamin Verbic has left Dynamo Kyiv to join Legia Warszawa for the rest of the season, becoming one of the first players to take advantage of a new FIFA ruling.
FIFA has intervened to allow foreign players and coaches based in Ukraine and Russia to leave their clubs temporarily.
Clubs in other countries will be allowed to sign up to two players who had been at clubs in Russia or Ukraine outside of the normal transfer window periods.
We started talks about Benjamin's transfer to Legia in February, but we watched him much earlier,' said Legia director Jacek Zielinski.
Of course, because of the war in Ukraine, other possibilities have opened up. The expectations are very specific: it is to help us win matches. We still do not have a comfortable situation in the table and each item above is valuable for us, also in terms of revenues. This move also increases our chances in the Polish Cup.
Verbic also had some words after the move was confirmed, saying: I am very pleased that I signed the contract with Legia Warsaw.
It is a great club with a great history, it is the best club in Poland. I hope to help the team win the cup by the end of the season and play the best I can in the league, says Benjamin Verbic.
