Santiago Solari fired from Club America, Hernan Crespo could replace him

The Argentine Santiago Solari, remembered for his time as player and coach of Real Madrid, is no longer the coach of Club América of Mexico, as announced by the Liga MX team.

After the Águilas' last game, a 1-1 draw with a last-minute goal by Querétaro, América's board decided to put an end to Solari's tenure in Mexico, which began with almost unbeatable numbers but ended with a streak of negative results.

Solari, from genius to culprit with América

Solari arrived in Mexico to coach América in 2021, leading the most winning team in the Mexican league for two and a half tournaments, with 13 league titles.

In his first tournament, the Clausura Guardianes 2021, Solari managed the team to finish second in the overall standings with 38 points, after 12 wins, two draws and three defeats, but the Águilas were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Liguilla.

For the Apertura 2021, América led the competition with 35 points, thanks to 10 wins and five draws, but were again eliminated in the Quarterfinals, this time to one of their most hated rivals, Pumas.

A 2022 to forget for América with Solari

Despite the media's insistence on Solari's departure from the team, the Argentinean coach remained at the helm of América in the Clausura 2022 tournament, but after just one victory and six points in eight games, the board's patience ran out after seeing the team in the penultimate position in the overall standings.

Crespo, possible replacement for Solari at América

Among the names of coaches who could replace Solari at América, one of the most prominent is his compatriot Hernán Crespo, who has not managed another team since leaving Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Other coaches who have been linked to América are Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio, former Mexico national team coach, as well as Argentine Antonio Mohamed, who has coached the Águilas in the past, and Mexican Guillermo Vázquez.
