New York City FC signed the youngest senior team in Major League Soccer history.
Maximo Carrizo, a 14-year-old midfielder, will be part of the MLS Cup-winner squad.
Carrizo just turned 14 years old. He's a homegrown new yorker and signed until 2027 with an option for 2027.
The Argentine heritage midfielder joined the NYCFC academy in 2018 as an Under 12 player, and he was present during the 2022 preseason with the senior team.
"It's an honor for me and my family to make MLS history by becoming the league's youngest player to sign a first-team contract," Carrizo said in a statement.
"This is an incredible Club with amazing people, I'd like to thank everyone at NYCFC for believing in me and helping me take the next step in my career. I know I'm young and I have a lot to improve, but I am ready for the challenge and will work hard every day to show everyone what I am capable of."
Before Carrizo, the MLS youngest signing record was Axel Kei of Real Salt Lake. Last January, Kei signed for Real Salt Lake.
However, Carrizo beat Kei by 15 days. The last MLS pearl was when Freddy Adu signed a contract with D.C. United in 2004.
