Sergio Aguero has accused his former side Independiente of making up false rumours about him returning to the club.

The striker announced his retirement from football in December after being diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia, having experienced chest pains while playing for Barcelona in a La Liga game against Alaves.

In recent days there have been shock suggestions in Argentina that Aguero, 33, was training with Independiente, who he began his career with, ahead of a potential return to action.

However, during one of his popular Twitch streams, the Manchester City legend quashed these rumours and slammed the Independiente hierarchy.

'I wanna say to the board to stop using me as a political pawn,' Aguero said. 'Do not disturb me, I have no business with it. I haven't spoken with anyone at the club since I left.'

The striker joined Independiente at the age of nine and made his senior debut in 2003 at only 15 years old.

He left the club in 2006 to join Atletico Madrid, before moving on to Manchester City five years later.

A decade at the Etihad Stadium brought five Premier League titles, the first of which Aguero famously secured with a 94-minute winner against QPR on the final day of the 2011-12 season.

The 33-year-old signed for Barcelona on a free transfer last summer before his emotional retirement came two months ago. He finished his career with 427 goals in 786 games.

'When they did the first physical test on me in the clinic, the medical staff called me to tell me there was a very big possibility that I wouldn't be able to keep playing,' Aguero said upon his retirement.

'From that point I was processing it all but it wasn't easy. One of the doctors told me straight up, 'that's enough'.

'I want to tell everyone that I did everything possible. I dreamt about playing football since I was five years old and I first touched a ball.

'I never thought I would get to Europe, so I want to show my gratitude to everyone regardless of where I trained.

'I'm proud of the career I've had and am fortunate it is happening to me now rather than before. I don't know what awaits me in the next life but I know there are a lot of people who love me and want the best for me.'
