On Monday FC Dallas confirmed that Ricardo Pepi had been transferred to Augsburg for a new club transfer record fee. The Bundesliga side paid $18 million and the 18-year-old striker became the second most expensive transfer in Major League Soccer history.
The most expensive transfer in MLS history is Miguel Almirón, who joined Newcastle in 2019. The Premier League side paid Atlanta United $24 million to sign the Paraguayan playmaker and he nailed down a five-and-a-half year deal.
One year later the Five Stripe club sold another player, Gonzalo ‘Pity’ Martinez, for a club transfer record fee of $16 million to Al-Nassr. The third most expensive transfer in MLS history is Alphonso Davies. The Canadian playmaker left Vancouver to join Bayern Munich for $11 million, but his fee could rise to $22 million if he achieves certain goals.
