Raphael Varane has enjoyed a glittering 10 years at Real Madrid since he signed for the club on June 27 2011. Alongside the 18 trophies he has lifted at the club, he has established himself as one of the best central defenders in world football and a firm fixture in the France starting line-up.

However, his future at the club now looks more uncertain than ever, as he has yet to agree on a new contract that will keep him at the Spanish capital beyond the end of his current deal, which expires in the summer of 2022.

Real Madrid's message

Nevertheless, Real Madrid are hoping not to lose Varane, as reflected by a post on their website to celebrate his decade at the club.

"The Frenchman made his official debut on September 21, 2011, against Racing Santander and has gone on to become a regular starter in the first team," read the post.

"He is now one of the club captains and proved to be a key figure in the Real Madrid side that clinched four Champions League trophies in five years.

"His silverware list boasts 18 trophies: four Champions League titles, four Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, three league titles, one Copa del Rey and three Supercopas de Espana.

"Varane also won the World Cup with France in 2018."

On Thursday, Florentino Perez declared his determination to keep the defender at the club.

"[Varane] is playing at the European Championship and, when he comes back we will ask him [if he wants to stay]," Perez told Onda Cero.

"He is at Real Madrid and he has a year left on his contract. We haven't received offers for Varane. He is a gentleman and if he wants to go, he will say that."

Summary of his 10 years at the club

After arriving from Lens in the summer of 2011 for 10 million euros, Varane quickly gained Jose Mourinho's trust, as he made 15 appearances in his first season in which Real Madrid won LaLiga Santander.

The following season, the French central defender became an established name in the first-team line-up, before a devastating knee injury put his career at the club in doubt.

However, he recovered stronger than ever and started in Lisbon in the Champions League final in 2014 after Pepe's injury, as he secured the first of four Champions League medals at the club.

Now, although Varane's future is looking more uncertain than ever, Real Madrid will be doing everything possible to keep a man who has been such a fundamental part of the club's success since he arrived 10 years ago.
