Honduras international and Club Olimpia captain Jerry Bengtson is believed to have become the first player to wear a mask during competitive action.

Bengtson caught the eye as he took to the field with a face covering in his appearance against Thierry Henry's Montreal Impact on Wednesday and has apparently been wearing one since the Honduran league restarted after the Covid-19 enforced break.
Bengtson wore the mask for the 76 minutes he was on the pitch against Montreal and the mask is reportedly a regular one with no special designs or features to help him breathe more easily while he is playing.

'The player does not want to become a major source of contagion for his family,' Olimpia doctor Elmer Lopez told Honduran publication Diez earlier this year.
'It is a very personal decision where the protocol does not demand it either. It is an ordinary nylon mask.
'It is uncomfortable and you have to get used to it because obviously when the person is agitated and tired, they feel a greater need for air, that's why most do not use it. It is a nylon mask for sports.
'It is not only used in soccer, but also by long-distance runners or cyclists.'
Olimpia's manager, Pedro Troglio, has no problem with Bengtson wearing the mask and says it has not impacted his form.
'It's weird because he's the only player on the squad and in the championship who plays with a mask,' he said.

'It doesn't bother him and he's also scoring goals.'
The 33-year-old Bengtson has played 57 times for the Honduras national side, as well as his playing career taking him from teams in Iran to Costa Rica.
Bengston's side lost 1-0 to Montreal on Wednesday but it was the second-leg of the quarter-final of the CONCACAF Champions League where his side already had a two-goal lead, so they advanced to the semi-final stage.
