Real Madrid stalwart Dani Carvajal is close to agreeing a contract extension to keep him at his boyhood club until at least 2024, when he will be 32 years old.

The right-back has been a mainstay in the first team at the Bernabeu for the majority of his career, first playing for the senior side back in 2013.

Marca report that Carvajal is in talks with the club's hierarchy, with an agreement close on a deal through until 2024. They write that the 'harmony is total and absolute' between the player and the club.

Captain Sergio Ramos, meanwhile, who is out of contract in the summer, is still locked in talks with bosses over a new deal of his own as he pushes for a lucrative deal to take him through to his 38th birthday.

As it stands, the captain could walk away for free in June and is able to talk to clubs from January, but there is a confidence from all parties that a deal can be ironed out before any major issues occur.

For Carvajal, meanwhile, a deal is much closer to being signed off, as the defender nears his 300th appearance for the Bernabeu giants.

Now 28, the Spaniard came through the club's youth academy, arriving at the age of 10, before joining Bayer Leverkusen having failed to break through to the first team.

After just one impressive season in the Bundesliga, Real exercised their buyback option on the player and he has been in the first-team ever since, playing over 20 times in La Liga in every campaign since 2013-14.

In fact, Carvajal's dominance in the right-back position is said to be the reason why Achraf Hakimi went on to seek pastures new, well aware of the fact it would be difficult to usurp his rival for the role.
