West Ham 'looking to offload Jack Wilshere' and will pay towards wages

West Ham are reportedly desperate to get midfielder Jack Wilshere off their books this summer and trim his £100,000 per-week wages from the club's bill.

The Hammers thought they could get a second wind from the player when he signed from Arsenal in July 2018, though injury problems have persisted and hindered Wilshere's progress as a result.

Now the club are actively looking to buy out what remains of his contract or subsidise a move to another club, according to the Times.

It is a sad state of events for a player once tipped as the brightest talent to have emerged from the famed Arsenal academy.

Since joining West Ham Wilshere has started just six games, and now the Hammers want to cut their losses as the player enters his final year.

West Ham were cornered into handing Wilshere a three-year deal in 2018, such was previous manager Manuel Pellegrini's determination to get the transfer sealed and create a more possession-conscious side.

If West Ham do not buy Wilshere out of his deal it is reported that they will express a willingness to interested clubs to help subsidise wages and pay whatever the difference is, in order for Wilshere to agree to a move and avoid a pay-cut on his current weekly earnings.

The midfielder returned from his most latest lay-off following football's return after the coronavirus postponements.

In the nine matches Wilshere featured for a total of 35 minutes, coming off the bench twice.

The former England international currently remains in Scotland with the West Ham squad, who are undertaking a training base in St Andrews ahead of the soon to be returning football season.
