Carles Rexach: Setien should remain in charge for the Champions League

Carles Rexach, formerly a player, coach and adviser at Barcelona, has insisted that it would not be wise to sack Quique Setien.

There has been talk of Barcelona dismissing the coach ahead of the resumption of the Champions League in August, particularly after the Catalans lost 2-1 at home to Osasuna on a night that Real Madrid secured the LaLiga Santander title.

"I think Setien should remain in charge," Rexach told Radio MARCA.

"When there's a change of coach in the middle of the season, it's bad for the team.

"I think once you get to December, you shouldn't get rid of the coaches."

Rexach then discussed the false hope he had with this Barcelona team.

"Barcelona's whole season has been very odd," Rexach noted.

"After the match against Villarreal I thought that the team could arrive at the knockout stage of the Champions League in good shape, but in these last two games, Barcelona have fallen back into what they were doing before Villarreal."
