There were 172 deaths related to COVID-19 over the last 24 hours in Italy, but only 952 remain in intensive care, with another 2,452 given the all-clear.

The numbers continue to drop in Italy after they had reached and passed the peak of the pandemic.

Today’s figures show that there were 172 deaths (62 of them in Lombardy), taking the total up to 30,911 since the crisis began on February 20.

The good news is that another 2,452 have been declared cured, so 109,039 have made a full recovery now.

Only 952 remain in intensive care, as another 47 left the ICU ward, while the spread of the disease is also curtailed.

Out of 67,003 tests performed since yesterday, there were 1,402 new positive cases.

However, it’s pointed out that 1,033 of those are in Lombardy and 419 were people who were infected before May 5 who just hadn’t been included in the previous calculations.

There are now 81,266 active cases in the country, a reduction of 1,222 since yesterday.
