Man United line up £35m move for Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius (Sun)

Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius is a top target for Manchester United as the club prepare to offer £35million for the starlet.

The Premier League giants are courting the 25-year-old, who has scored 20 goals from 33 games in all competitions this season.

As the Primeira Liga's top scorer this season, Vinicius has also attracted interest from Premier League giants, Liverpool.

The Brazilian, who joined Napoli for £15m last summer, is contracted with the club until 2024 but has a £88m release clause in his contract.

Though, given the financial ramification of the coronavirus pandemic on football it seems unlikely Benfica will receive their asking price.

The Red Devils are reportedly testing the waters as they are set to offer Benfica £35m for their starlet.

Although Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira is confident he can get £88m for Vinicius if he holds out.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to sign Vinicius as a striker, to help fulfil in plans to rebuild the United squad into one that can try and challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Formerly a holding midfielder, Vinicius first played as a striker at 22-years-old when playing in the Brazilian League. After scoring two goals during his first game up front, he has played there ever since.
