Barcelona city council to widen pavements to reduce risk of contagion

Barcelona's city council are planning to widen footpaths and bicycle lanes on some of the city's main streets to minimise the risk posed by COVID-19.
The idea is to provide people with more space in order to maintain the recommended distance between themselves and others as Spain takes steps towards living with the coronavirus.
Calculations suggest that Barcelona will game around 21 kilometres for bicycles and scooters as a result, which will also reduce pollution in the city as fewer cars can occupy the streets.
Gran Via is one of the main streets in the city which will see the paths widened.
It's thought that similar plans will be executed in Paris and New York.
