After an extended period of time under lockdown, countries across the world are considering relaxing their lockdown measures.

Spain, for example, has enforced a total lockdown on its citizens for the last month and is now seeing some non-essential workers return to work.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) have warned against lifting lockdown restrictions too quickly because of the risk of a second outbreak of coronavirus.

These are the six points listed on the WHO's criteria for countries looking to ease their lockdown regulations:

1. Transmission is controlled.

2.  Health systems have the ability to quickly detect, test, isolate and treat new cases as well as to trace close contracts.

3. Outbreaks are minimised in some settings, like retirement homes and health facilities.

4. Preventative measures are put in place in workplaces, schools and shops.

5. Risks of imported cases are managed.

6. People are educated, engaged and empowered to adjust to the new norm.
