Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini was “stunned” that Juventus and Inter players left Italy during the coronavirus lockdown. “It’s a form of respect for the club and general population.”

The mandatory quarantine period is 14 days, especially if other teammates such as Daniele Rugani, Blaise Matuidi and Paulo Dybala tested positive for COVID-19.

Some players from Juve and Inter went abroad the moment they were allowed to do so, but Pellegrini cannot understand this approach.

“I was pretty stunned by what happened with other clubs,” he told Il Tempo newspaper.

“When it comes to Roma, we had a group video call and everyone was ready to do what the club asked, which is remain at home without travelling too far.

“I am happy that we did that, because I see it as a form of respect for the club, but also the general population who are stuck inside their homes.”

This also means that those who do return from abroad once the lockdown is over will need to sit out another period of quarantine before being able to train with their teammates.
