Robert Lewandowski: Jurgen Klopp improved my finishing

Robert Lewandowski has credited Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp for helping him improve his finishing whilst at Borussia Dortmund.

It was the German tactician who took a risk by bringing the Polish striker to the Bundesliga in the 2010 summer transfer window, splashing out just £4million to lure him away from Lech Poznan.

The 28-year-old spent four years at the Signal Iduna Park, winning two league titles, one German Cup and one German Super Cup under the guidance of Klopp.

Furthermore, Lewandowski developed into one of European football’s most clinical centre-forwards during his time with BVB as he netted 103 goals in 187 appearances across all competitions and he’s claimed his finishing wasn’t always good.

“With Klopp I saw for the first time how important it was to work in training,” Lewandowski told the Times.

“I saw what I have to do on the pitch when I don’t have the ball. You look at Liverpool now and how they play with the pressing. That is what I learnt from him.

“He also improved my finishing. When I came to Dortmund it wasn’t as good. He told me, he showed me what I had to do.

“He made it clear that my finishing had to be better. That is what I learnt.”
