West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell admits he is 'petrified' for his new-born's well-being if the Premier League resumes sooner rather than later due to the coronavirus pandemic.

At present, the Premier League, EFL, Women's Super League and Championship have been suspended until at least April 30.

Last month, in agreement with the FA, it was agreed to extend those campaigns indefinitely.

Top-flight chiefs are looking to resume the season as quickly as possibly but Cresswell is looking at the bigger picture with his wife Jess giving birth to their daughter Sadie just five weeks ago.

The couple also have a son, Sonny, with all four holed up in their Docklands flat.

'The most important thing is everyone's health and well-being. Football can wait,' he told West Ham's official website.

'I've got a five-week-old baby daughter and, I'll be honest, I'm petrified.

'There has been a lot of talk about how quick we can get football back.

'But the focus should be on people's health and staying indoors.

'Of course, we're all missing it - but there is a whole bigger picture.

'We can't rush back just because people say we must to finish the season.'
