Italian rugby cancels season due to coronavirus pandemics

The Italian Rugby Federation has officially cancelled the 2019-20 season in light of the coronavirus crisis.
A statement released by the FIR this morning confirmed there would be no champions, promotions or relegations in any of its 19-20 league competitions.
The federation says this decision was taken to “protect the health and future” of its players, show it has “ethical” values and give clubs time to plan for next season.
The stance on rugby differs to that of football in Italy, with the FIGC vowing to do it all can to ensure the current campaign is completed.
As it stands, football league competitions including Serie A have been suspended until April 3 and look set to be postponed indefinitely.
