MANCHESTER CITY are the butt of a hilarious internet joke, as GOOGLE MAPS mocks their attendances.

Pep Guardiola's side have often been derided for their struggle to sell out the Etihad Stadium on European nights.

And when fans enter the term "empty seats" into Google Maps, they are greeted by Man City's stadium as the result.

The reputation appears a harsh one, however, with their average home gate in the Premier League this season being 54,391, out of a capacity of 55,097.

City did get a paltry 37,143 for their League Cup clash with Southampton earlier in this campaign.

And it is more their lack of European sell-outs that has drawn the mocking of the footballing world.

In fact, earlier this season they were left with red faces, after it was leaked that they had tried to reach out to "influencers" to promote their Champions League nights.

And according to the Manchester Evening News, the PR agency behind the embarrassing gaffe were swiftly sacked by the Citizens.

This season City's Champions League gates have again been below their league average.

They attracted 49,046 for their match with Dinamo Zagreb and 49,308 for their resounding win over Atalanta.
