Snoozefest on AND off the pitch: Man Utd announce partnership with mattress company

The Red Devils have offered little to prevent their supporters from dozing off of late, but there is no longer any excuse for their players to be tired

The 2016/17 campaign has hardly been thrill-a-minute for Manchester United supporters, with Jose Mourinho’s side doing little to set the pulse racing.

The Red Devils are the lowest scorers in the Premier League’s top eight, with free-scoring Manchester City and Liverpool having already registered 11 more goals through their opening 10 fixtures.

Mata: Not easy post-Ferguson

To make matters worse, United have gone three games since they last netted in a top-flight fixture – with a goalless draw away at Anfield followed by a 4-0 drubbing at Chelsea and a 0-0 stalemate at home to Burnley.

The Old Trafford faithful could be forgiven for struggling to keep their eyes open at times, and that could explain the club’s latest global partnership announcement.

United have entered into an agreement with Mlily, a company that specialises in the production and distribution of mattresses and pillows.

There is no suggestion that said items will be distributed to home fans upon their arrival at the Theatre of Dreams, but tiredness can no longer be considered an excuse for the playing and coaching staff.

Mourinho must trust Carrick

Group managing director Richard Arnold said on the club’s official website : “Mlily has an established track record of producing a high quality product. We want to make the best use of the latest technology and expertise that can help our team, which in this case is the sleep and recovery of players.”

It now remains to be seen whether United can be shaken from their slumber, or whether top of the range memory foam mattresses at the club’s Carrington training base actually make the Red Devils even more lethargic.
