Vertonghen 'ready to agree new deal to remain at Tottenham'

Jan Vertonghen is ready to agree a new deal to remain at Tottenham beyond next summer, according to Football Insider.

The Belgian defender, 32, has less than a year remaining on his current contract, which expires in 2020.

Vertonghen has found the net 10 times in 285 appearances since joining Tottenham from Ajax in 2012.

Vertonghen will turn 33 in April and is entering his eighth campaign at the club, but still sees a future for himself in the side.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is unlikely to offer a long-term deal to Vertonghen, with players in their 30s usually receiving no more than a year-long extension.

Having been on the bench for two of Tottenham's opening matches, Vertonghen was restored to the line-up for the 2-2 derby draw against Arsenal.
