'Just let things be' - Muller fed up with debate over Bayern role

The Germany international's performances this season have been underwhelming and the attacker is fed up with the questions surrounding his form

Thomas Muller is growing frustrated with the debate about his role at Bayern Munich.

The Germany international endured a difficult first half of the season in which he scored just once in 13 Bundesliga outings.

The versatile attacker's underwhelming performances prompted club great Lothar Matthaus to question his role under Carlo Ancelotti, suggesting there is no room for Muller in the Italian coach's formation.

The discussion over his form has generated speculation that Chelsea could make a move for him this month if they lose Diego Costa.

The attacker has admitted that he has been frustrated this term, having been left on the bench for Bayern's win over main Bundesliga title challengers RB Leipzig last month. 

But while Ancelotti was quick to stress Muller remains a key figure, that has not ended the debate about the 27-year-old, much to his frustration.

"People are making too much of an issue about all this," Muller was quoted as saying by TZ.

"Not just over the past few weeks, but in general. People should just let things be.

"Just look at us as a team and do not always single out individual players.

"I will play wherever the coach wants me to play and I will give my all in every position."

Muller has failed to score in the league this term, even though only Robert Lewandowski has hit more shots than he has. However, he has made five assists so far and is Bayern's joint-second most prolific creator of chances, bested only by Thiago Alcantara, who has one more chance but has played two more matches.

The 2014 World Cup winner has a contract until June 2021 at Bayern, who resume domestic action this Friday when they take on Freiburg.
