Clyde's 50-year-old manager subs HIMSELF on against Celtic youth team in cup win

Clyde's 50-year-old manager Danny Lennon personally took it upon himself to help his side beat Celtic's colts team, by introducing himself as a second half substitute.

Such was Clyde's injury crisis, the manager was forced to name himself on the threadbare substitutes bench, which consisted of only four players and also included a trialist goalkeeper.

Despite this, and against all odds, Clyde still ran out victorious against the Celtic youth side and took a 3-1 victory to advance in the Glasgow Cup.

Lennon laced up his boots in the second half and brought himself onto the field as a late substitute in the 76th minute, 11 years on from his official retirement from football.

The 50-year-old veteran Lennon was up against the likes of highly rated Parkhead teenage talent Armstrong Okoflex, 17, but put in a solid display to see Clyde's victory over the line.

Clyde currently find themselves bottom of Scottish League One after three games, but entered the cup clash knowing they had nothing to lose.

The Lanarkshire side won thanks to headers from Ally Love and Craig Howie, plus an own goal from Celtic defender Stephen Welsh.

Ewan Henderson scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot for Celtic, but it wasn't enough to avoid defeat and in the aftermath Lennon quickly made the headlines.

Lennon began his playing career at Hibernian and went on to play for Raith Rovers - where he amassed over 150 appearances - before going on to play for Partick Thistle and a host of other Scottish sides.

Turning to management in 2008, Lennon began his stint in the dug-out with Cowdenbeath after ending his playing days with the club.

He then made the switch to St Mirren in 2010, spending four years at the club and overseeing 179 games in charge.

A series of other jobs followed, including a caretaker role with the Under-21s of the Scotland national team, before Lennon found his way to Clyde.

At present, the 50-year-old's win percentage with the club stands at just over 50 per cent.
