De Vrij is close to renewing his Lazio contract with a €20m release clause

Stefan de Vrij is believed to be close to renewing his Lazio contract, but with a €20m release clause.

The Dutch defender’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and he was linked with Juventus in the summer.

However, Il Messaggero is reporting today that a new contract has been agreed, with De Vrij ready to sign on until 2020.

The new deal would see his wages rise to €2.5m per season, basically €3m when bonuses are included, and is expected to contain a €20m release clause.

That could rise to €25m depending on the number of appearances De Vrij makes for the Biancocelesti.
