2009 - Real Madrid signed Kaka from Milan

Real Madrid signed Brazilian ace Kaka from AC Milan on June 8th 2009, one of the 'Galacticos' that summer including Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

He won one La Liga title at Real Madrid but an injury before World Cup 2010 which saw his physical ability to dribble from midfield rapidly decline proved to eventually cost almost his entire career at the Spanish capital.

Kaka left Madrid in 2013, rejoining Milan where he reached his peak.

2017 - Man City signed Ederson Moraes

Manchester City signed Ederson Moraes from Benfica for €40m on June 8th 2017, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in the Premier League then.

And he proved his worth - Ederson helped Man City win back-to-back Premier League titles in the past two years as well as a domestic treble this season.

Ederson established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, especially for his ability to pass the ball and even make assists.

1984 - Javier Mascherano was born

Javier Mascherano was born on June 8th 1984. He plays as a defensive midfielder or a centre back.

The Argentine midfielder started his career at River Plate before joining Liverpool in 2007, where he gradually became well known for his hard-tackling style of play.

Barcelona signed Mascherano in 2010 and he won five La Liga and two Champions League titles with the Catalan side. He left for China in 2018.

Mascherano made 147 appearances for the Argentina national team and is the most capped player in the country's history. He played four World Cups with Argentina, reaching the final in 2014.

1998 - FIFA got Blattered

Sepp Blatter, one of the most notorious names in the football history became president of FIFA on June 8th 1998, winning an election against Swedish challenger Lennart Johansson.

Shortly afterwards, it was reported a total of $1 million was paid to 20 FIFA delegates prior to the election in return for their switching their votes from Johansson to Blatter.

Rumours of his bribery and other forms of corruption have never stopped ever since, including allegations raised before his re-election in 2002.

He remained president until 2016, when he resigned amid two separate corruption investigations run by the Swiss government and the United States Justice Department.

He is currently serving a six-year suspension from all football activity.
