Spain contacted Zara & Puma to replace Adidas as kit maker

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) this week announced that it will break its kit supply contract with German sportswear brand Adidas for the country's national teams. Now there is first information about which brand could become Spain's new kit maker.

Zara 'needs to make market study - likely does not want kit deal

Already in early May 2019, Spanish publication AS reported that RFEF president Luis Rubiales has made an unsuccessful approach to Inditex, the group behind Zara and brands such as Pull & Bear, with a view to the textile giant becoming the kit manufacturer for Spain's national teams. It was suggested that Oysho, a brand dedicated to female fashion, could provide the kit sported by Spain's women's side.

The objective of Rubiales was not simple since Zara does not invest in traditional advertising and the world of sports is not in its market lines. The answer from Inditex was that they would need a market study that could take three years. This led Rubiales to desist from his initial offer but he did propose that Massimo Dutti be the supplier of the national team's walking clothes. Inditex thinks about it.
