Leeds fan gets 'Championship play-off winners' tattoo BEFORE Derby loss

'If you don't succeed, try and try again', is the mantra of one football fan who appears to have a bad habit of tempting fate.

Jamie Richardson, from West Yorkshire, was so confident that Leeds would make their long-awaited return to the top-flight that he got 'Leeds United Championship play-off winners' permanently inked into his shoulder.

However, the Leeds super-fan may be living to regret his decision on Thursday after Derby pulled off a remarkable comeback to reach the Championship play-off finals just the night before.

Richardson, who lives in Allerton Bywater, got the tattoo after Marcelo Bielsa's side managed a 1-0 first-leg win at Pride Park which put Leeds firmly in the driving seat of the two-legged tie.

However, his confidence has come back to haunt him with Leeds now resigned to yet another season in the Championship following their 4-3 aggregate defeat to the Rams.

Richardson revealed his fresh ink ahead of the second leg in an interview with the BBC.

'My name's Jamie, I'm that confident Leeds are getting promoted I've been and had this done,' he said.

'I just felt like the team needed a bit of a boost. The fans needed a little bit of a boost. So I went and got that tattoo done.

'We'll completely rip them [Derby] to bits,' he continued. 'Generally it's simply written within the stars.'

It's not the first time Richardson has made a football prediction through the art form of tattooing.

Last summer, he got a 'England 2018 World Cup Winners' tattoo on the right side of his stomach, which he believes inspired one of the Three Lions' best performances at the tournament in decades.

As a result, Richardson went back to the same tattoo artist in the hope that the ink would inspire Leeds to victory and help them gain promotion to the Premier League.

He explained: 'I went to the same guy who did the World Cup tattoo for me. I went back to the source, I went to see Dale and I said: "Dale, England had the best year that they had for 29 years. I need the same kind of magic for Leeds" and he said, "No probs, mate."'

While Richardson may have tempted fate with another semi-final exit, he insists that the tattoo is all a bit of fun and he's 'not too fussed by people's reactions'.

Let's just hope he's not booked back in before England's Nations League campaign next month.
