On This Day in 2005 - Barca won their first La Liga of the new century and the first in five seasons

The 2004-05 season saw Barcelona end their six-year wait for the La Liga title, having not won the league or, indeed, any trophy since the 1998–99 season and thus La Liga trophy returned to Barcelona's trophy room. Having finished second in La Liga the previous season, Barcelona once again competed in the UEFA Champions League as well as the Copa del Rey.

Ronaldinho's and new signing Samuel Eto'o's performances won them places in FIFPro's XI of 2004–05. Ronaldinho was later named FIFA World Player of the Year for 2005 for the second time in succession and with the highest points total ever; Eto'o came third. This season was also notable for the debut of Lionel Messi.

On This Day in 2016 - Barca won their sixth of the last eight league titles

Barcelona was involved in six competitions after completing the Treble during the last season. Barcelona won the league and the Spanish cup.

Luis Suarez scored a hat-trick as Barcelona claimed their 24th La Liga title with a 3-0 win over Granada to pip rivals Real Madrid by a point.

The Uruguayan finished from close range on 22 minutes before converting a header from Dani Alves' fine cross before the break, and then easily rounded off the win late on from Neymar's unselfish play.

The treble took Suarez's final goal tally to 40 in La Liga and secures him the 'Pichichi' top scorer crown ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

On This Day in 2011 - City ended 35-year trophy drought with FA Cup final triumph

Manchester City ended a barren sequence of 35 years without a major trophy as Yaya Toure's late strike gave them a deserved FA Cup Final victory over Stoke City.

Toure was City's Wembley hero with the semi-final winner against Manchester United - and the giant Ivory Coast midfield man was on target again 16 minutes from time to set the seal on their first top-level success since the 1976 League Cup win against Newcastle United.

Roberto Mancini's side dominated throughout against a disappointing Stoke, who never came close to reproducing the form that swept Bolton Wanderers aside to reach their first FA Cup final.

On This Day in 2016 - Juventus won their 5th straight Scudetto

Juventus ended their successful Serie A campaign with a thrashing of Sampdoria before collecting their trophy.

The hosts, who had won five Italian league titles in a row, led within five minutes as Patrice Evra headed in.

Paulo Dybala scored a penalty - Milan Skriniar being dismissed for the foul on Mario Mandzukic that produced it - and then curled home another.

Giorgio Chiellini, on his 400th Juve appearance, added a fourth before Leonardo Bonucci's close-range goal.

On This Day in 2017 - Tottenham said goodbye to The Lane in style

Goals from Victor Wanyama and Harry Kane earned Tottenham victory over Manchester United in their final game at White Hart Lane.

Mauricio Pochettino's side left their old ground, where they have spent 118 years, on a high by staying unbeaten there the former season and securing second spot in the Premier League.

Wanyama got Spurs off to the best possible start with a header five minutes in and Kane doubled their lead early in the second half, flicking home from a Christian Eriksen free-kick.

Captain Wayne Rooney gave United hope of a recovery when he poked in from Anthony Martial's low cross, but they were unable to spoil the leaving party.

On This Day in 2011 - Bayern legend Miroslav Klose made his final Bundesliga appearance

The former world class goal-getter scored 53 goals in 150 appearances for Bayern between 2007 and 2011. Klose is also the record goalscorer at the World Cup finals with 16 goals.

The Germany star rejected Bayern's offer of a one-year contract with the option of an extra year, after having spent most of last season on the bench.

"I have had four very nice and successful years in Munich, so I would like to sincerely thank Bayern," said Klose.

"It was something special for me to play for this team."

Klose signed a three-year contract with Italian Serie A club Lazio on 9 June 2011.
