On this day in 1958, Former Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was born

Vichai was a Thai billionaire businessman and the founder, owner and chairman of King Power Duty-Free.

Leicester City went on to win the 2015–16 Premier League title after starting the season as 5000/1 rank outsiders. Shortly before the 2016–17 season, Vichai gifted 19 players a BMW i8—at £100,000 each—as a gift for winning the title.

On 27 October 2018, Vichai's AgustaWestland AW169 helicopter crashed outside the King Power Stadium shortly after taking off from the pitch. The next day, it was confirmed that Vichai—along with the other three passengers and the pilot—had died in the crash.

On this day in 2018, Liverpool thrashed Man City 3-0 in UCL QFs

Liverpool took a firm grip on their Champions League quarter-final as Manchester City were torn apart by a three-goal burst from Jurgen Klopp's side in the first 31 minutes at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah pounced in the area to score his 38th goal of the season after 12 minutes and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain doubled their lead eight minutes later when he unleashed a fierce shot past Ederson from 20 yards.

And the third goal that gives Liverpool such a commanding advantage to take to Etihad Stadium came just after the half-hour when Sadio Mane rose to head home Salah's cross.

On this day in 2009, Wolfsburg reached the top of Bundesliga by crushing Bayern 5-1

The sides remained even through the first 45 minutes, exchanging late first-half goals from Wolfsburg's Christian Gentner and Bayern's Luca Toni. But in the second half, the balance shifted in Wolfsburg's favor with a quick brace from Bosnia striker Edin Džeko (63', 66'), then a goal from his Brazilian teammate Grafite (74').

Grafite later matched his strike partner's tally, capping off the win with a brilliant 77th-minute backheel that was hailed as one of the best Bundesliga goals in history.

On this day in 2004, Antonio Conte made a final appearance for Juventus

Playing as a midfielder, Conte began his career at local club Lecce and later became one of the most decorated and influential players in the history of Juventus. He captained the team and won the UEFA Champions League, as well as five Serie A titles, among other honours.

During his 13 seasons with Juventus, he made a total of 295 appearances and 29 goals in Serie A, and 418 appearances and 43 goals in all competitions.

On this day in 2016, Chelsea announced Antonio Conte would become next manager

On 4 April 2016, it was confirmed Conte had signed a three-year contract and would officially become the new first-team head coach of English side Chelsea from the 2016–17 season.

As a manager, Conte is known for using the 3–5–2 formation, fielding two wingbacks in lieu of wingers, with two out-and-out strikers backed by an attacking box-to-box midfielder in a three-man midfield, in front of a three-man defensive line.

Chelsea finished fifth in the league at the end of the season, missing out on Champions League qualification. Conte was dismissed as Chelsea manager on 13 July 2018.

On this day in 1998, PSG won their second Coupe de la Ligue

Bordeaux started as the stronger side, with midfielder Johan Micoud sending one shot off the post before burying a strike in the 30th minute. But the momentum shifted in PSG's favor by the end of the half, with one near miss and one shot cleared off the line.

The Parisians finally drew level in the 80th minute, after a missed penalty rebounded to forward Marco Simone, who fired the ball into the net. A few minutes later, Simone nearly put PSG ahead, but his shot hit the bar. They did take the lead in extra time thanks to a header from their captain, Raí (107'), but Bordeaux's Jean-Pierre Papin restored equality seven minutes later with a goal from a free kick.

In the shootout, Bordeaux fell behind early, as PSG goalkeeper Vincent Fernandez blocked their first attempt, then Papin sent their second attempt wide. PSG, meanwhile, converted their first four, which was enough to secure the cup without the need for a fifth kick.

On this day in 2001, Leeds beat La Coruna 3-0 in UCL semi-finals

Leeds took a huge step towards the semi-final of the European Cup as they humbled the Spanish Champions at Elland Road.

It was the first time for 26 years that the Yorkshire club had reached this far in European competition.

And goals from Ian Harte, Alan Smith and Rio Ferdinand made sure it was a night to remember.
